How do i copy a whole primary hdd (80GB-SATA) to another hard drive (500GB-SATA), to replace the first hdd (80GB-SATA) with the one i just copied everything to (500GB-SATA), without re-installing the OS?

Ive tried 2 HDD cloning Programs (Norton Ghost and Acronis)

But after i hook the 500GB-SATA as the primary alone it gives me
Windows Boot Manager

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

To fix the problem:

1. Insert your Windows Installation disc and restart your computer.

2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next".

3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe

Status: 0xc000000c

Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.

ENTER= Continue.
I switch it back to Primary (80GB-SATA) 500GB-SATA as slave, and it works fine again…

Can anyone give me any possible tuts/Instructions for this?

help?

Answer:I use Acronis and it works great. I don't know what process you are using to image your drive, but I would do what you are attempting this way:

1. Strip the partitions from your new drive and create an 80 Gb partition first, and then a 420 Gb partition.

2. Use Acronis to create an image of your old drive on the 420 Gb partition of you new drive.

3. Make a bootable Acronis restore disk.

4. Disconnect the old drive from the system.

5. Boot from the Acronis restore CD and restore the image file you made to the 80 Gb partition on your new drive.

6. Done. Reboot your machine without the CD in the drive and you should have your old system on your new drive. Windows will notice that the hard drive is different, but it should work.

7. Now you can delete the 420 Gb partition and add the space to the 80 Gb partition if you want and reconnect the old hard drive.

Depending upon the version of Acronis you have it can be picky about the size of the drive you want to reinstall the image. Hope this works for you.
